about rotary district 1070

Rotary District 1070 is located in the East Midlands of England covering an area from Sleaford in the north to Biggleswade in the south and from Boston in the East to Hinckley in the west, including the counties of Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, parts of Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and, finally but not least, the ancient but proud county of Rutland, England's smallest county. In Rotary District 1070 there are eighty six clubs with more than 2800 Rotarians working in their local areas and serving the community locally, nationally and internationally.

The purpose of this site is threefold:

  • to provide information about Rotary in the East Midlands to those who want to know more about us. We hope that this site will introduce Rotary to interested people and provide an insight into what we, for the benefit of others, do throughout our district and in other parts of the world

  • to provide information and downloads on Rotary-related subjects for Rotarians across district 1070 and to provide information about current events which may be of interest to Rotarians and others. Rotary is also about fellowship and having fun. As part of our activities, throughout the district, there is a constant social program going on which involves Rotarians, their families, their friends and members of the public.

  • to allow you an opportunity to make contact with us to air your views and comments about Rotary, yourself, or the world in general.

If you would like further information or have any comments please do not hesitate to make contact with us.

Rotary District 1070 is one of 29 UK based administrative districts of Rotary International (a world wide fellowship of over 1.2 million professional and business leaders). The district covers an area ranging from Sleaford in the north to Bedford in the south and from Hinckley in the west to Boston in the east. This covers 86 Rotary clubs with over 2,800 members.

Rotary District 1070 in the East Midlands of England is just about as diverse a region as can be found anywhere in the United Kingdom. From the shifting coastline of Lincolnshire in the east, across the fens and flat agricultural plains of Anglia and Lincolnshire almost to the edge of the Peaks of Derbyshire in the west, the District includes a number of England's most significant commercial or industrial cities such as Leicester, Loughborough, Peterborough, and Northampton. On the other hand, there is a range of quiet, historical and touristic towns such as Stamford with its Georgian buildings and annual horse trials at Burghley, and Oakham, on the edge of England's largest man-made lake, Rutland Water.

The district is led by a District Governor who is elected by the membership each year. As with many districts of this size (a round trip to visit each club in the district would cover over 800 miles) the District Governor is assisted by 7 Assistant Governors each of whom is the contact point for a small group of clubs.

To help in the smooth running of the district there are several other officers and committees, each responsible for a particular job or function.
