1070 Team almost wins AGAIN!
The English Disabled Sports Championship - held this year on the weekend of 12 & 13th November and taking place in Coventry - is Sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of District 1060. District 1070 is currently represented by a team from Leicestershire organised and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lutterworth.
The 30th Rotary English Disabled Sports Championship was held at the X Cel Leisure Centre.
Our athletes entered into the spirit of the games with determination and effort, all 9 teams wishing to take the crown from the South Yorkshire/Lincolnshire Team that won last year.
The teams came from around the country: Avon, Coventry, Gloucester, Hucknall, Leicestershire, Rugby, Wakefield, Warwickshire and South Yorkshire/Lincolnshire.
This year’s winner, by just 7 points was South Yorkshire/Lincolnshire. Closely following in second place was the Leicestershire team (receiving a prize of £300 which will go towards funding next year’s Championship) and the team representing Rugby came third.
We (Leicestershire) won 3 of the twelve events – Darts – Pitstop and Slalom and second in Male Weights, Shooting and Table Tennis.
The team organiser Rotarian John Roberson along with the sports coaches, supporters and drivers taking the athletes to the venue were all thanked by the team for making the event happen and run so smoothly on the day.
They look forward to returning to recapture the First Place next year.

Peter J Osborn, Rotary Club of Lutterworth.
