Region 2 Young Chef Final 2011
1070 Triumphs Again!
Following on from last year’s success when the Regional Young Chef Final was won by District 1070’s entry, Bethany Dare, the District is extremely pleased to be again producing the 2011 Regional Final winner. Victoria Allen, aged 16, who was entered by the Rotary Club of Ashby-De-La-Zouche Castle, cooked her way to winning first prize having competed with six other students from within the Region who had travelled from
Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire. Victoria is a student at Ashby School in Leicestershire.
The Regional Final was held on Saturday 19th March 2011 at Harrogate High School in Yorkshire and was hosted by District 1040. The highly experienced judging panel was very impressed by the standard of entries and Victoria was awarded points for creativity, cooking skills, taste and presentation. Each participant in the competition received a framed certificate, a cookery book, olive oil provided by Filippo Berrio and tea provided by Taylors of Harrogate.
Victoria cooked a starter of carpaccio of beetroot with goat’s cheese baked in golden crunchy breadcrumbs, followed by a main course of bavette steak with sauce bēarnaise, potato rosti and caramelised carrots and shallots, with a dessert of pear and ginger soufflē served with home made ice cream.
The National RIBI Young Chef Final will be held on Saturday 30th April 2011 at Stratford upon Avon. Victoria will be once again cooking her meal and competing against the other worthy Regional Final winners.
Anne Bamfield, District 1070 Young Chef organiser, said, “Victoria’s entry was very impressive and the judging panel considered she has a natural talent. The cooking skills that Victoria uses are excellent and to produce such a high standard meal in just two hours is enviable. District 1070 is very proud of her achievement. We would also like to thank our other District competitor Charlotte Bull from Wellingborough who was just pipped to the post, but who cooked another excellent meal.
Chris Bown, Rotary District 1040 Regional Final organiser, said, “Good luck to Victoria for next month, I hope Victoria goes all the way and picks up the RIBI trophy representing our region”.
The Rotary Young Chef competition encourages students to experiment with cooking to produce high quality, healthy meals in a competitive environment.
