RIBI Young Citizen Awards recognise young people, under the age of 25, who have shown a commitment to citizenship. These can be individuals or groups working in their schools or communities to improve the lives of others and demonstrating “Service above Self.”
Five winners are selected from all the nominations. The winners receive a cash prize each of £500 and a visit to BBC News at TV Centre in London. They receive their prizes at the RIBI Annual Conference which is televised live. Their winning projects form the basis of a series of mini-reports for television.
All those nominated receive certificates. Some Rotary Clubs organise special events to celebrate the achievements of their nominees.
All that is involved is for clubs to select a young person / group of young people they consider worthy and complete the simple application form which will be on the RIBI website www.ribi.org/youth/young-citizen-awards. The closing date for nominations is the end of February 2012.
Look around in your community for young people who are showing service above self. Local newspapers are often a good source of information on young people who have carried out projects for others. Schools, youth groups, local councils, local charities and many other local groups may also recommend nominees.
