Know Your Blood Pressure
The date of April 28th 2012 has now been set for Stroke Awareness Day. If your club wishes to take part, you will need to register your event with the Stroke Association and obtain an event pack from them that will set out in detail how to organize the event.
All the information, including on line registration can be accessed on line from:
www.stroke.org.uk/kybp
This will be the 11th Stroke and Health Awareness day. Will your Club be taking part?
Know your Blood Pressure
- FACT 1 - Stroke is one of the top three causes of death in England and Wales, along with cancer and heart disease
- FACT 2 - Stroke is a leading cause of adult disability in England and Wales, with at least 300,000 people living with moderate to severe disabilities as a result of stroke
- FACT 3 - Stroke costs the economy £7bn every year in health and social care costs
The Stroke Association and Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) have now worked together for ten years on the 'Know your Blood Pressure' campaign.
In District 1070, our experience is that around 15% of those that had blood pressure taken during these events were advised to take further action and visit their GP’s. This shows the depth of the problem and how important it is for Rotary to be involved in project.
On 28th April, 2012 we would like to increase the number of events in our District
Your club’s participation is needed. All you need is enthusiasm, a venue, some blood pressure machines and some medically trained people for taking blood pressure readings (doctors, nurses, paramedics or volunteer ambulance workers).
Further information may be found on the following, just copy and paste into your browser. www.stroke.org.uk/kybp
Please advise me if your club is intending to take part or get in touch if you need further information..
