Let’s do something amazing!
In my presentation at District International Assembly in May 2011, I highlighted how the survival of a woman in labour in Africa depends upon the distance and time she must travel to get to skilled emergency medical care. Transportation may be unavailable, unaffordable or take too long.
If a woman in desperate need of assistance reaches a major health centre at all, the hours or even days of delay are likely to mean that it is too late to save her and her baby.
The project I introduced aims to provide a fleet of eRanger Motorbike ambulances for the one million people of Mbale town and district in Uganda.
This project is totally dependent upon getting the majority of clubs in District 1070 to participate. An individual club can only do so much, but together we can make a massive difference to a huge number of people. Through the Global Matching Grant scheme, the sum we raise together will be increased 3.5 times. It will totally transform the lives of an entire community.
To date, 44 of the 87 clubs in District 1070 have indicated that they will be participating in this venture. If your own club’s International Committee has not yet planned for fund-raising for a specific project, please please keep this one in mind..
It really is an amazing project. Essentially it is a District taking over a significant part of the emergency health needs of an entire territory!
It would be wonderful if your Club decided to hold an event in support of this very ambitious joint project
I confirm that your club has ownership of any money you donate and lodge with the DistrictTreasurer for the “Uganda eRanger Project” until the time comes for that money to be paid for the Global Matching Grant.
I would be very happy to come and speak to your Rotary Club or other group about the project and answer any queries you may have.
If you can support this amazing and exciting venture, I would be very grateful if you could let me know so that I have a fairly accurate idea of how many will be taking part.
Yours in Rotary Service and Friendship,
Roger Neuberg
