Rotary district 1070 has 87 clubs with nearly 3,000 members – but the need for the unique service to the community which Rotary provides is growing.
We are deeply involved in helping existing clubs retain and increase their membership. However, there is always the opportunity to open new clubs and expand the choice of meeting days and times for potential new members.
At the moment, we have new clubs in formation in:-
Broughton Astley, near Lutterworth
Kettering (a new third club in the town)
North Loughborough (meeting at Pillings Lock) and
are planning to hold launch meetings early in 2012 for new clubs based on Norman Cross (south of Peterborough), Brackley and Groby (NW of Leicester)..
Northampton Club now offers the opportunity to attend on Monday lunchtime OR on Tuesday evening – still one club, but choice of meeting time and venue!
If you are interested in becoming part of a new and vibrant club in any of these areas, or if you want more information about Rotary, please contact our District New Clubs Officer, Iain Vernon. He will be delighted to tell you more and invite you along to a meeting to see for yourself.

This committee will meet four times through the year, 10th July, 9th October, 8th January and 9th April.

The following are also members of the committee:
Les Aldrich (Ashby-de-la-Zouch Hastings)
Robert Bracegirdle (Loughborough Beacon)
Bill Hill (Wellingborough Hatton)
Chris Lambert (Northampton Apollo)
Lawrie Cooke (Huntingdon Cromwell)
Iain Vernon (Peterborough Ortons)
Extension is developed by a separate committee under the chairmanship of Iain Vernon.
The year 2010-11 begins with a total of 2751 members, which number will be adjusted when confirmation is received on the number of members who do not renew their subscriptions.
There are currently five new Clubs in Formation
In the year 2009-10 we inducted 142 new members and lost a total of 126, although this number will need to be revised after the 30th June.
Membership Services
This committee consists of:
District Golf – Ray Freshfield (Loughborough Beacon)
Ray has organised and supervised the District Golf Competition for 5 years and has given notice of his impending retirement.
There is therefore a current vacancy for his replacement
District Minor Sports – Ben Abbott (Melton Mowbray)
District Quiz – Graham Cooper (Soar Valley) who has served jointly with Bob McKinley.
Bob is retiring this year and his place is being taken by John Callow (Soar Valley)
Approximately two thirds of the Clubs in the District participate in these events. As each of the competitions are perceived as a tool retaining members, this initiative during then forthcoming year is to encourage the remaining Clubs to participate.
An Alumnus of the Rotary Foundation is any person, Rotarian or not, who has received a Rotary Foundation grant or scholarship award including Ambassadorial Scholars, Peace Scholars, recipients of Grants for University Teacher or Carl Miller Discovery Grants, Group Study Exchange team members, and Rotary Volunteers.
Alumni are potential speakers for Rotary events. Possibly those in your area might wish to join your Club.
A list of Alumni in your area is available from the District Foundation team (via the Development Team Chairman, David Morris, RC of Melton Mowbray). We also ask that clubs keep the committee informed of the whereabouts of Alumni with whom they have contact.
